The Máté family winery is located on the slopes of the Montalcino hill. It extends over 6.5 hectares of vineyards with varied terroir surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, at an altitude between 320 and 420 meters above sea level. Designed by Fabrizio Moltard, the rootstocks and clones of each grape variety have been carefully selected and include: Sangiovese, grown on tufaceous soil rich in fossil debris; Merlot, on clay; Cabernet Sauvignon, on soil composed of galestro; and Syrah on south-facing terraces rich in minerals. The planting density is 6,200 vines per hectare and yields are kept low thanks to green pruning, which favors a high concentration of substances and aromas.
